All dates in this novel are easily determined since they are based around the well-documented Monmouth Rebellion.

Chapter II tells us that the opening, Lord Scoresby's party, took place on a Saturday night, and that the next day was the last day of May.  (Recall that the Julian calendar was still in effect.)
