It is easy to date this story approximately, difficult to date it precisely.

Part I in its entirety takes place on a single day in April 1789.  But it seems impossible to determine which day.  The only clue seems to be that Robespierre is on his way to Paris for the Estates-General, which convened on May 5.  Possibly a biography of Robespierre would describe his immediately preceding travels with sufficient detail to determine exactly when he passed through Bellecour.
